Electric Sub Station - County Durham

Electric Sub Station Converted into a Dwelling

The Green Architect in Country Durham (TGA) was appointed on this very unique scheme to convert a disused electric substation into an amazing home. The client has been granted full planning permission.

TGA managed the feasibility studies to help the client understand the red tape which surrounded such a scheme. Professional objections and long term legal disputes heavily guarded the progress of the Electric Sub Station conversion for a long time. However, with our expertise and knowledge on the planning system, we secured a positive outcome for our very hands-on client. More importantly, we designed a unique home.

We managed the planning applications with special attention given to policy E10, E21, E24 and Q8 of Durham City Council Local Plan; complex access and boundary legalities; a highways construction management plan in the interest of highway safety; structural design integration; a landscaping scheme; surface water drainage and waste detailing; permeability testing under BRE Digest 365; a tree protection plan; contamination reports; and Ecological assessments.
